The Animal Welfare Education Centre (AWEC) is based at the School of Veterinary Science of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, which has been ranked as one of the ten best veterinary schools in Europe.

AWEC mission is to promote animal welfare through education and research. AWEC has three sections dealing with farm, companion and zoo animals (see links below).

AWEC educational activities are science-based, follow a practical approach and can be delivered in English, Spanish and French. They include courses, workshops, webinars and a wide range of technical documents. Further information on AWEC activities can be found clicking on the links below.

Animal welfare includes many different aspects and AWEC researchers have expertise in animal behaviour, animal husbandry and physiological indicators of stress and welfare.

Animal welfare is closely linked to human health and well-being. By promoting animal welfare, AWEC aims to contribute to the sustainability of livestock production, the human-animal bond and the conservation of biodiversity.
